Islands of Coherence is a podcast for people who refuse to go numb.
The world is in freefall - politically, ecologically, spiritually - and most of us can feel it. But Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ilya Prigogine showed us something remarkable: when a system is in chaos, small pockets of coherence don’t just survive - they can shift the entire system toward a higher order.
This show is about building those pockets. Each episode draws from spiritual practice, somatic work, artmaking, ecology, and activism to explore a single question: how do we cultivate wholeness - in ourselves, in our communities - while everything around us fragments?

In today's deep dive we have the wise Kacee Must from Citizen Yoga to help us illuminate the many aspects of practicing yoga in this current century. Coming from a largely philosophical approach we talk about integrating this ancient practice in our contemporary lives, what it means to be a yogi, and how we can make this beautiful path more accessible to people who may have been turned away from the more toxic elements of the community at large. We also take some time to explore her business, Citizen Yoga from it's value structures to it's new on demand platform (with a nice 7 day free trial by the way) and some of the core principles behind what she calls 'Alignment Yoga'.
To get connected to Kacee's many offerings, head on over to citizenyogastudio.com or her socials @citizenyogadetroit.

He truly is one of the most magical turtles I've had the rare gift of meeting and I'm confident you'll feel the same.

In this episode we sat down with Amanda Gilbert of Happy Henna to talk about all things henna. We cover its history, the process of adornment, the spiritual and meditative aspects, use in self expression and self discovery, and her incredible work with creating spaces for women battling cancer to feel a sense of empowerment and coming home to their true selves. It was an incredible conversation that hits a lot of the marks that I aim for in the explorations of the show and if you want to get involved with her new non-profit, Henna Crowns of Courage, I strongly suggest checking out the website and supporting the Kickstarter initiative she has going.

“The ‘Muse’ is not an artistic mystery, but a mathematical equation. The gift are those ideas you think of as you drift to sleep. The giver is that one you think of when you first awake.”

In this week's episode, we sit down with Carisa Holmes, creative coach, holistic healthcare practitioner, musician, and author. If each episode represents a theme, this one is 'Creativity'. We talk the process of building a relationship with the muse, unblocking ourselves when it's just not flowing, overcoming stage fright, the relationship between bodywork and creativity, the function of electronic music, and how creativity flows through all things. This is a powerhouse of a conversation and if you wish to take on the work of refining your creative impulses, I encourage you to get involved with Carisa's platform.

Today's episode is very special as we're introducing one of the key pillars of the show, social activism! To launch this boat we sit down with documentarian and videographer Jose Guadalupe Jimenez Jr to talk about his newest work, Citizen: The Jilmar Ramos-Gomez Story which is a disheartening tale of a United States veteran being arrested and threatened with deportation. We also talk about his bi-lingual news publication startup, the nature of being undocumented, the psychology of Latinx communities under the Trump era, the evolution of immigration policy, and the sordid way that ICE is operating in the United States today.
Check out Jose's bi-lingual journalism startup: https://www.candormedia.org/ for some top of the line reporting.
